IWC cal. 630
Hi Mark,
There are three variations of the JLC quartz chronograph movement used by IWC:
Cal. 630 - quartz-controlled time (hours, minutes, small seconds at 6), chronograph (center seconds, 30-minute counter at 9, 12-hour counter at 3), window date, and moon phase display at 12.
Cal. 631 - cal. 630 without moon phase display.
Cal. 633 - cal. 631 with alarm.
The cal. 630 family uses two separate quartz-controlled stepper motors, one to drive the timekeeping portion (1 Hz, 3600 bph) and one driving the mechanical chronograph module (4 Hz, 14400 bph). Since there are two motors, the chronograph can run when the timekeeping portion is stopped.
Best regards,
