卖家文字说明:MERCIER & REYNAUD, Geneve. No 4632Lovely quarter-repeating watch with unique German Royal provenance, dated 1848. Super slim 18ct gold hunter case with slide operated repeat, the covers beautifully engraved with crowned GM monogram on one side and the full crest of Ernest Augustus, King of Hanover on the other, the inside also with crown over GM and bearing the date 24 Dec 1848 - presumably a Christmas gift. Well finished gilt quarter-repeating movement of Breguet calibre. Duplex escapement with steel escape, retaining its jewelled roller. Compensation balance, spiral balance spring. Perfect enamel dial with gold 'Breguet' hands also in perfect condition. 43.5 mm diameter, only 9.5 mm deep. Together withpurple velvet and silk lined box.
Sd Mercier, Geneva, winner of a ** Medal at the 1851 Great Exhibition, and known to have sold watches to the English Royal Family.
Ernest Augustus, 5th son of King George III, Duke of Brunswick-Luneburg, Duke of Cumberland and Teviotdale and Earl of Armagh, becoming King of Hanover and its German dominions between 1837 to 1851. In 1815 he had married Frederica, daughter of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. They had an only son, born 1819, who became totally blind aged 14. He succeeded his father to the throne of Hanover 1851 but was deposed in 1866.
In lovely condition showing almost no signs of wear. Cleaned and ticking and repeating correctly.
