Agassiz US Navy Patrol Boat Watch assigned to the USS Hubbard in 1917, 67mm, giant Jurgensen style mvt, nickel alloy OF original case marked "US Navy No 29" on back, SW-pin-set, WED signed Agassiz, lever escapement with oversize compensation balance with timing and quartering screw pairs, 17J adjusted, fausses-cotes NI damascene, s#126846; "Military Timepieces" by Marvin Whitney reads "In a letter dated September 2, 1917 from the Commandant, Norfolk Navy Yard to the Observatory, it stated... [that]...the following watches were issued to the nine patrol boats which were recently fitted out at the Yard for distant service:...USS Hubbard, No 29, Agassiz No 126846..."
CONDITION: Mvt: GRO, good balance motion, good poise, fine plates show faint cloudiness, some due to oil smear, hardly any MFS, near mint slots & settings, hardly any oxide on bright work, near mint winding wheels; dial perfect in the visible area but with small edge ship at 4; hands in near mint mottled blue; original case shows little wear, numerous MFS to FS, no dents or dings; bow tight, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal; it is wonderful to find documentation to place this watch on its original vessel
