腕表后刻有一只 Silver Snoopy,象征着电影里的一句话:“Failure is not an option。”
Snoopy

The Purpose of SFA
The Space Flight Awareness (SFA) Program is a NASA-managed motivational and recognition program with invited representation from NASA and contractors having major responsibilities for human spaceflight mission success. The SFA program is managed by NASA Headquarters Human Exploration and Operations Mission Directorate.
Mission Statement
To ensure that each and every employee involved in human space flight is aware of the importance of their role in promoting astronaut safety and mission success in the critical, challenging task of flying humans in the hostile environment of space by communicating and educating the {要和谐}/industry workforce about human space flight.
Our Purpose
The purpose of the Space Flight Awareness (SFA) Plan is to establish annual SFA Program goals and objectives to:
Improve employee awareness on the importance of their role in promoting safety, quality and mission success.
Conduct events that motivate and recognize the workforce and improve employee morale.
Function as an internal communications team to disseminate key program safety, quality and mission messages.
Increase awareness of the Space Flight Program accomplishments, milestones and objectives with a focus on safety and mission success.
Maintain supplier motivational and recognition programs.
Background of Space Flight Awareness
NASA established the Space Flight Awareness Program in 1963. The SFA Program (previously known as the MFA Program) became a formal program following the Mercury and Gemini Programs, when NASA took steps to infuse the space program with a renewed and strengthened consciousness of quality and flight safety. As NASA human space flight programs grew, NASA centers were requested to expand their assistance to {要和谐} agencies and contractors in enhancing employee motivation.
As it grew in stature, the SFA Program played an integral and increasingly forceful role in the Apollo, Skylab, and Apollo-Soyuz projects. By the time the Space Shuttle was flying, the program had begun to promote its goals through various motivational vehicles: Awards, films, publications, posters, and an array of pins, buttons, banners, and decals.
Since its inception, SFA's mission has been to ensure that all employees involved in human space flight are aware of the impact their actions can have on astronaut safety and mission success. During this time, thousands of individuals have been recognized for their contributions to the success of NASA's programs.

The Silver Snoopy award is a special honor awarded to NASA employees and contractors for outstanding achievements related to human flight safety or mission success. The award certificate states that it is "In Appreciation" "For professionalism, dedication and outstanding support that greatly enhanced space flight safety and mission success." The award depicts Snoopy, a character from the Peanuts comic strip created by Charles M. Schulz.
The award is given personally by NASA astronauts as it represents the astronauts' own recognition of excellence. It is presented at the workplace of the recipient with the recipient's coworkers present. The Silver Snoopy award is one of several awards overseen by the Space Flight Awareness (SFA) program at NASA.
The award consists of a sterling silver "Silver Snoopy" lapel pin flown during a NASA mission, a commendation letter (stating the mission the Silver Snoopy pin was flown on) and a signed, framed Silver Snoopy certificate. Snoopy decals and posters are also given to the recipient.

After the completion of the Mercury and Gemini projects, NASA wanted a way to promote greater awareness among its employees and contractors of the impact they had on flight safety, the flight crews and their missions. NASA wanted to use a symbol for spaceflight that would be well known and accepted by the public, similar to the recognition received by the United States Forest Service's Smokey Bear.
The idea for the Silver Snoopy award came from Al Chop, who was director of the public affairs office for the Manned Spacecraft Center (now called the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center). He wanted to create an award featuring Snoopy as an astronaut to be given by astronauts in recognition of outstanding contributions by employees.
Charles M. Schulz, who was an avid supporter of the U.S. space program, welcomed the idea of using Snoopy for the award. Schulz and United Feature Syndicate (the distributor of the Peanuts comic strip) agreed to let NASA use "Snoopy the Astronaut" at no cost. Schulz himself drew the image the award pin was based on. He also drew promotional art for posters to promote the award program.
