The "Cort" name was trademarked by the Ace Watch Corp. of New York City, on Aug 21, 1943, and had been used by them since 1936.

This was just one of hundreds of importing companies who jumped into the lucrative market for Swiss watches during the World War Two era. Since the American producers were tied up with war related production, there was a large gap in the demand for wristwatches, which the Swiss (who were neutral during the war) were able to fill. Most of these companies were middlemen who provided these watches to retailers, including department stores, local jewelers, variety stores and mail-order firms. The watches are generically styled and often had fanciful names that had no relation to the actual manufacturer. Cort is one of the better regarded of these, often using high quality casing, but their movements were contracted to whichever Swiss firm could supply them. These type of watches filled American demand from the 1930s through the 1970s and millions of examples were produced. It's a good quality watch, but nothing especially attractive to collectors.
